Patricia Bridges

2017-01-13

Patricia Hamer Bridges, 92, passed away peacefully at the Warner Center for Caring on January 13, 2017.

Patricia was born on August 18, 1924, to Ruth Woodall Hamer and Norman Hamer in Winnipeg, Canada. As an infant they moved to Grosse Pointe Mi where she lived until high school. Patricia graduated from Palm Beach High School, West Palm Beach, Fl in 1942, and attended Florida State College for Women, (now Florida State University) where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1943 she married Captain Merle David Bridges, Jr., a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps.

Patricia spent many years working in the insurance industry for Cornelius, Johnson & Clark Insurance agents in West Palm Beach, Fl, as Accounting Manager. When she retired in 1989 at age 65, she continued to work part time for Richard Johnson until she was 85. In 2010 she moved to Amelia Island to live with her daughter Nancy. Patricia always loved the beach and particularly loved living on Amelia Island. An avid lifelong reader, she was a member of the Books Plus Book Club.

Patricia is survived by her children Nancy Bridges Maxwell, Fernandina Beach, Fl; Robert (Norma) David Bridges, Jacksonville, Fl and 7 Devils, NC; and Joanne (Andrew) Bridges Harrell, Orlando, Fl. Grandchildren Robyn (Ed) Bridges, Fletcher, Raleigh, NC; Jay P. Layman, Jr., Jacksonville, Fl; David Scott (Timona) Bridges, Los Angeles, Ca; Heather (Rob) Maxwell Rohe, Fernandina Beach, Fl; Taylor Bridges Harrell, Gainesville, Fl. Great grandchildren Alyssa, Brandon, Brooke and Tommy Bridges of Los Angeles, Ca.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
