Tricia Kirkendall Veres

Paul was such a wonderful neighbor for over 27 years. He always had a smile and wave, loved to see all of the kids in their costumes at Halloween and he and Sandra were ‘grandparents’ to all the neighborhood children. They were loved by our family. Sending love and prayers to Sandra and their family during this time.

We were blessed to be given 2 pieces of his carving. It is an honor to have been gifted these pieces that show his amazing talent. I'm so glad Gene and I got to know him. Much love to the family.

Paul Gordon Thoresen passed away Monday, the 26th of May 2025.

Born June 29, 1936, Paul lived a very full and rich life. Paul was born on a small family farm in Concord, Massachusetts on Strawberry Hill Road. The surrounding farms and woods would serve as comfortable memories throughout his life and especially in the late years as he struggled with Alzheimer's. Paul played the trumpet in the school band and later with the Fort Dix Army band. He had great memories of playing music with his brother Robert and enjoying all the musical talent of his siblings and extended family members.

Paul was a United States Army veteran trained in missile guidance systems. He would go on to work for General Electric in radar tracking and guidance systems for the space program and later for United States Navy missile programs. Paul and Sandra, his wife of 69 years, lived in a variety of locations: Huntsville, Alabama; Syracuse, New York; Cheyenne, Wyoming; Cocoa, Florida; Pittsfield, Massachusetts; Bremerton, Washington; Albany, New York; and finally Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Paul retired at 55 years old and spent the last 34 years enjoying golf, bicycling, walking, and a variety of woodworking hobbies. Family and special friends’ homes are graced with the lovingly handcrafted turned and carved creations of a very talented artisan. He would never sell his creations but they survive as his loving gifts to those he cared so much about.

Paul is survived by his wife Sandra Elizabeth (Silk) Thoresen; his son David Paul Thoresen (spouse Paula)of Woodbridge, Virginia and his daughters Wendy Suzanne Day (spouse Wayne) of Brentwood, Tennessee and Karen Elizabeth Lawson (spouse Steve) of Fernandina Beach, Florida.
