Paula Ruth Butler

Paula R. (Whiting) Butler, formerly of Belmont, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday December 3, 2017 in Fernandina Beach, FL.
Born in Waltham, MA, on August 1, 1930 to Genevieve and Kenneth Whiting, she was the older of two girls.
A graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1948, she then received her degree from Boston Museum School of Fine Arts majoring in painting and pottery. Paula spent most of her life in Belmont, MA. She also wintered in Arroyo, Puerto Rico for many years and settled in Fernandina Beach in 2005.
Paula had a wide range of interests and talent including her work as a watercolorist and potter. Her first one-man show was at the age of 16. As a young woman, she was a bagpiper in St. Catherine�s band. She also published considerable work as an illustrator, and cartographer. She founded the Belmont Art Association and served on many local boards in Belmont. Her wide interest in ornithology included hosting the annual eastern Christmas Bird Count in Boston. As a conservation commissioner in Belmont, she helped protect local wetlands. Paula was well-travelled with many trips in an RV or aboard a cruise ship.
She became a friend of Bill Wilson in 1980 and made many friends in the fellowship during the last 37 years.
Beloved wife of Kenneth R. Butler, loving mother of Heather (Burton) Naples, Fl., Holly Kelley of Fernandina Beach, FL, Neil K. Butler of Berwick, ME, grandmother of Keith Kelley, Plymouth, MA, Matthew Kelley, Ayer, MA, Kyle and Andrew Butler of Auburndale, MA and great-grandmother to Christian Butler Kelley of Plymouth, MA. She is also survived by her sister, Margorie Ahlin, Machias, ME.
Services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at St. Peter�s Episcopal Church.
She will be laid to rest in Belmont Cemetery in Belmont, MA.
