Peggy Wynne Russell
2019-06-14
Peggy Wynne Russell, 86, of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Warner Center for Caring after a brief illness.
Born in Macon, Georgia, Mrs. Russell was a daughter of the late Thomas A. and Myrtle Boyer Brown. She grew up in Carrs Station, Georgia in Hancock County.
Upon graduation from high school Peggy moved to Atlanta in search of work. She joined her older sister who had done the same. In Atlanta, she met her future husband, William Bill G. Russell, Jr. . That meeting would lead to their marriage which would endure for some 69 years.
She always loved gardening and baking and considered taking care of her family to be her main job. After Bill retired, they moved from Marietta, Georgia to Fernandina Beach. They were members of First Baptist Church for the last nineteen years and they enjoyed a relaxing life together at the beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Jeanine Hodges, Vera Hodges, David Brown, Andrew Brown, Clara Shelton and Jere Brown.
She leaves behind her husband, William Bill G. Russell, Jr.; their two daughters, Sherry Russell Turner and her husband, Gary, of Buford, Georgia and Angie Russell of Statesboro, Georgia; a sister, Margie Brown Smith of Sandersville, Georgia as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved to see.
A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Russells life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors with Pastor Shad Goltz officiating.
She will be laid to rest with her parents near Sparta, Georgia in a family service later this summer.
The family suggests that donations be made to The Warner Center for Caring, Fernandina Beach, whose staff so lovingly cared for their wife and mother.
