Mona was a dear and precious friend to Joel and me, as was John. We shared so many memories of things we did together. Mona was a gracious Southern woman with talent and charm. We will miss her so much, but love knowing that she is with John once again.

Ramona Chilton Winn
2025-04-27
Ramona Chilton Winn, age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Community Hospice Warner Center for Caring in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Born on November 23, 1928, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Stewart King Chilton and Julia Shaw Chilton, Mona was a proud 1947 graduate of Girls High School, one of only four high schools in metro Atlanta at that time. After a move to St. Simons Island, Georgia, Mona met John Winn, the love of her life, and together they welcomed 3 children into their home and shared 58 wonderful years - living in Doraville, GA; Hilton Head Island, SC; Hinesville, GA and finally Fernandina Beach, FL.
Mona embraced her role as a devoted mother and homemaker, but her passions also extended beyond the home. When her dreams of being a dress designer didn’t come to fruition, her love of sewing, painting, gardening and all things creative did. She could literally do anything and had a natural green thumb that she passed on to her children. In addition, she co-owned Kids Korner, a successful children’s clothing store in Hinesville, that outfitted many children over the years.
Mona was also passionate about golf and was a member of the ladies’ golf league at Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville where she was known to coordinate her golf tee and ball color with her outfit for special luck!
In the early 2000’s, Mona and John retired to Fernandina Beach, enjoying their golden years by the sea. Mona was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church and rarely missed a Sunday service until her health began to decline. She was known for her zest for life and could light up any room she walked into. Her deepest joys came from her faith, family & friends, golf and the simple pleasure of gardening (weeds feared her!). Mona will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, John and their infant son Thomas Scott Winn. Left to celebrate her life are her two children, Jack (Susie) Winn of Fernandina Beach and Ellen (David) Jenkins of Fernandina Beach; five grandchildren, Emily Manken, Avalee (Scott) DeLay, John Ward (Sophie) Winn III, Helen Winn and Amelia Winn; two great-grandchildren, Betsy and Graham DeLay; brother, Blue (Hilda) Chilton and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 5, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church, Fernandina Beach, at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow. The family will have a private burial at Dorchester Cemetery, Dorchester, GA at a later date.
