Rebecca Jones Mertz, 72, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 19, 2020.
Born the third child of six children to shrimp boat captain Rupert �Bud� and his wife Thelma Jones in Fernandina Beach, FL, Becky was a lifelong resident of Fernandina and proud Fernandina Beach High School graduate class of 1965.
Becky loved to travel the world sharing the love of Jesus on mission trips with her church family at Living Waters World Outreach Center. One of her many talents included being a hairdresser, which she made her profession for over 40 years, retiring from Changes Beauty Salon.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 44 years Mark of Fernandina Beach, two daughters Cortney (Walter, Jr) Gray and Jennifer (David) Wilson, four grandchildren Trey Gray, Libby Gray, Emma Gray, and Makalah Wilson, all of Yulee, sisters Dottie Harrison of Fernandina Beach, Kathy Sheldon of Yulee, Susie (Scott) Lawhorne of Charlotte NC, RL (Eyonne) Jones of Melbourne FL, and sister in law Diana Mertz of Fernandina Beach. Becky also loved her many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, customers, classmates, and friends to numerous to count. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Bonnie Davisson.
Her family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Living Waters World Outreach Center.
The service will also be live streamed on the church�s Facebook page for those unable to attend in person. She will be laid to rest immediately following in Chester Cemetery.

I was so saddened to see that Becky had died. Her sister, Lucy, and I were best friends in junior high and I spent a lot of time at their house and Becky was often with Lucy and me. Becky and I reconnected several years ago on Facebook and I enjoyed keeping up with her. My condolences to all her family. May God wrap his arms around them all and give them comfort and peace.

I still have the snippets of hair she gave me to keep. I always loved talking to her even though it would be awhile between times I saw her.

I Hoisted Becky Mertz in our mission to Kenya in 2005 when Pastor Rob and the Living Waters Church came to Kenya Africa.

Becky introduced Louie and I back in 1982 at Pine Grove. and we have been married 36 years! She cut our hair for many many many years and we have spent many years of joy and happiness and laughter sharing with Becky. She will be missed by us and many, but only for a short time.
