Rex Warren Newlin

2023-05-24

Rex Warren Newlin, 84, of Fernandina Beach passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2023 at the Warner Center
for Caring.

Born in Oblong, IL, he was the son of the late Harold R. and Alice Downey Newlin. He was a loving husband married to the love of his life for 58 years; he was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Newlin, in 2021. Together, they established a home with love, peace and favor. Rex was a devoted father of one daughter and three sons and grandfather to six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with another on the way. He was a voracious reader and student of everything; he could speak intelligently about anything with anyone. Rex was quick witted and always had a story or joke at hand; with each, he imparted wisdom, truth and value. He was a master craftsman and could make anything out of everything. Whether it was a hand designed outbuilding, backyard deck, custom kitchen cabinets, one of his two airplanes, or a cheese sandwich in the kitchen – he built each with a meticulous plan and exacted every step to produce the highest quality product. He believed in hard work and doing things right. He was quick to serve others in providing repairs, the strength of his back, wise words, or just a listening ear. He disliked doing dishes about as much as he disliked chicken! A man of integrity and value, he was beautifully complex with a tough exterior and tender inside.

He served in his country in the U. S. Air Force and after returning from the service he began what would
be a 37-year career with Delta Airlines as an aircraft mechanic. He worked for Delta Airlines in
Charleston, SC for many years and relocated to work in Jacksonville nearly 30 years ago.

He leaves behind goodness, wisdom, and inspiration to his children, Kendra DeLuca of Yulee, Greg (Eno) Newlin of Greensboro, NC, Glenn (Crystal) Newlin of Bonneau, SC and Keith Newlin of Fernandina Beach; a sister, Janice (Larry) Jennings of Owasso, OK; six grandchildren, Michael, Alicia (Dee), Jordan (Anna), Kyle (Emily), Folu and Toba; two great-grandchildren, Easton, Raelynn and Baby Cash coming in November.

He would sometimes say, “If you don’t have time to do it right the first time, how will you find time to do it over again”? Rex Newlin did it right the first time.

There are no services planned for Mr. Newlin at this time.
