Condolences:

Susan Earl

My delightful former neighbor. She, Jim and Sadie were lovely friends. Sometimes they brought me fresh fish they had caught. Made the best martini's with their green tomatos. Really missed them when they moved.

Rhoda "Dodie" Burton Perkins

2023-05-01

Dodie (or affectionately “Grannie Dodo” to her grandchildren) a resident of Naples since the mid-1950s, passed away on May Day, 5/1/23.

Born to Capt. Watson Archibald Burton (USCG retired) and Edna Lindbergh Burton on 9/29/33 in Cape May, NJ.

Predeceased by her husband James (Jim) Lyle Perkins. Survived by their children, Dr. Craig L. Perkins (Kelly), Katherine P. Ahearn (Chuck), Robin P. Morrissey (Tom), grandchildren Wyatt (Isabella), Rider (Sayla), Nicholas, Samantha, Jack, numerous other family members and her beloved GSP Paisley.

Dodie moved numerous times during childhood as part of a Coast Guard family. Places called home during these years included Hawaii and Alaska. Her early passion, later career, was in art and design. An incredible, creative mind and talent, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy, the Corcoran School of Art, and the Ringling College of Art and Design. She graced numerous homes and yachts with her interior design skills during her career. Her culinary and entertaining skills were also unmatched!

Dodie and Jim loved to travel, especially to the Bahamas in the 80s and 90s, and the deep woods of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where they returned frequently in their later years. Both outdoor enthusiasts, they loved walking in the woods, gardening and wildlife.

Cheers to you Dodo, raising a salty dog to you!
