My sincere condolences to Robbie's family. He was always so nice. I'm sure we'll all miss his big beautiful smile. Rest in peace Robbie with your wonderful mother and dad.

Robbie had this uncanny ability to just pop up- smiling- out of nowhere! I remember the time seeing him after a doctor's appointment at St. Vincent's. I got a coffee and was about to head out and here comes Robbie- with a big smile- walking up to me. It had been a few years after high school and we chatted for a long while and got caught up. That was Robbie, a genuine kind person. He took the time to say, 'hello', and talk. Years would pass and I would run into him occasionally and it was always the same...great big ole smile and some time to catch up. Robbie, was my elusive friend. and I never knew when our next chance encounter would take place. It was sad and shocking to hear that he had passed- only finding out the night before the service. You eluded me again, my dear friend, and I am sorry I didn't get to say a formal farewell but I look forward to one day seeing your smile again in heaven. I send my deepest sympathies to Stephanie, Coral, Ciera, and Michael.

My friend, my skateboard, surfing, tree swing building, and just about everything you could imagine buddy, including getting in trouble. Ha! Robbie and I grew up about 50 yards away from each other throughout our childhood and then when he moved to the North end of the island there were to many surf sessions together at “Hooks”. If ya know ya know! It was hit or miss seeing each other in our adult years raising kids and enjoying our families. I would still scoop him up for rides around the island occasionally visiting our old stomping grounds, reminiscing about the good old days of being 80’s kids on this little island. This one hurts bad but as adults we’ve had the conversation that let me know I’ll see my buddy again one day! I miss his smile, his playfulness of always wanting to wrestle or his favorite “Arm Wrestling”. Truly one of a kind and a man that loved his children and his true life long love Stephanie! Rest in peace old friend. I’ll see you again in paradise one day! All my love from the Mock family to Coral, Sierra, Michael and Steph!

I grew up surfing, skating, and having fun with Robbie and many other Fernandina locals from our time. I joined the Marine Corps in '91. I left for boot camp (unknowingly) on Robbie's birthday. I was stationed in El Toro, California. I surfed most of the time in Huntington Beach. Sometime in '92 or '93, some guy calls my name and comes paddling up to me while paddling back out after a wave. It was my buddy Robbie! I didn't even know that he had joined the Army. He was on leave for a few days or a week, not sure. We surfed and hung out. I ended up sneeking him into my barracks so he wouldn't have to pay for a hotel haha. Fast-forward 10 or so years, I was living in Costa Rica. I surfed Playa Hermosa most days. One day some guy calls my name and paddles up to me. Guess who?? Robbie haha. We surfed our butts off, got fully sunburned, then celebrated with some local beers. Robbie was a good dude and always had a smile on his face. I'll miss you, old friend. My condolences to his kids and other family.

Robert Eston Wilcox, Jr. (Robbie)

2026-03-18

Robert Eston Wilcox Jr. (Robbie), age 54; of Fernandina Beach, passed away on March 18th; peacefully.

Born on March 27th, in Jacksonville, Florida to Mary Frances Burgess and Robert E. Wilcox. He grew up in Fernandina Beach Florida and graduated from Fernandina Beach High School; in 1989. After graduating from High School, he then joined the Army where he would meet the mother of his children, Stephanie Fairbanks Wilcox.

After leaving the service he returned to what was home, Fernandina Beach. He began working as an Orthopedic Technician, a job in which he loved to do and was always able to put a smile on whoever walked in. Over 26 years of marriage, the couple welcomed 3, children into their home. His children remember him; as a fun, loving Father; who always encouraged them to pursue their goals and support them in whatever dream they decided to pursue.

Robert was accomplished at surfing and often enjoyed long days chasing waves along the coast. He was a humble, goofy, fun individual who loved the ocean and was passionate about fishing, always happiest with a line in the water or a board under his feet. He was also always down for a drink with friends, bringing laughter and an easygoing spirit wherever he went. Larger than life, he stood out in every room and every lineup.

Robert E. Wilcox Jr. leaves behind former wife and mother of his children, Stephanie Fairbanks Wilcox. Children Coral Wilcox, Ciera Wilcox, and Michael Wilcox. He will join Frances and Robert at rest.

Funeral services will be at 11am on Friday April 3rd.

The family will receive friends from 10am until the hour of service at Oxley Heard Funeral Home.
