Robert J. Nozza

Robert J. Nozza, (73), from Fernandina Beach, died peacefully on July 28th, 2019 after a lengthy illness (Amyloidosis). He was born in Newark, NJ on December 22, 1945 and spent his childhood in Maplewood, NJ. A graduate of Rutgers (Class of 68), he spent 2 years with Prudential Insurance Company, before returning to graduate school at Seton Hall for his Masters Degree in Audiology. That same year, 1974, he married his devoted wife of 45 years, Wilma (nee Tufariello) Nozza. Bob continued his schooling by earning his PhD in Audiology at the University of Washington. Bob chose a career in academia that took his family to the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Georgia and finally Temple University, during which he taught and published his research about hearing, deafness and speech perception in infants and children.
He was an avid reader, loved to cook, exercise and run. He was always there to support, offer his advice and bring laughs to his wife and children. His children never doubted his love for them, but they did doubt his corny �dad� jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas G. and Catherine (nee Muccillo) Nozza, and his brother Thomas J. Nozza. He leaves his wife, his two children, Gina (Scott) Lewis and Greg Nozza, 3 grandchildren, and a number of cousins and friends with whom he was very close.
The family is planning a memorial at the Jersey Shore in September, a place that held some of his happiest memories.

So sorry to hear about Bob�s passing. I have such fond memories of talking to him about Cochlear hearing � as recently as on the 4th of July when he and Wilma attended the Amelia Park Holiday picnic. Always helpful, always nice. Sincere condolences to Wilma, Gina, Greg and family.

Bob was a gentle soul. I will miss his warmth and humor. During the past two years we were in contact via text and shared some memories of long ago events as TKE fraternity brothers at Rutgers.
More recently we spoke of our spouses, children, and grandchildren
I hope to be able to attend the planned memorial at the shore.
May your family be comforted by fond memories shared with family and friends.

So sorry to hear this, wish I had known in time to attend the memorial service. Noz and I, along with several others from Columbia High School, grew up in Maplewood and were the best of friends. I spent a lot of happy hours at Bob�s home enjoying the company of his family. There is so much I would like to say in praise of him, but that would be longer than a novel. If you would contact me I would love to relate some stories of your dad�s early years when we were bucking broncos flailing at life and laughing almost always. His passing brings tears to the eyes of an old school Italian who was taught that men do not cry. I have to break from that for Noz.
