Condolences:

Maggie de Vries

Winette I am so sorry to learn of your loss. Bob was a true southern gentleman, he took such loving care of your mama. I am honored to have known him. My prayers are with you at this difficult time, may Gods angels wrap you in peace and love. Maggie

In my 25 years as his daughter in law, I learned from Bob how to be the most loving, hands on, devoted and generous grandparent. His love for his grandchildren was so apparent, he absolutely beamed when his grandchildren were around. He actively played with them and always gave the most positive affirming feedback. He and Gamma were so generous with their time and $, taking them on many adventures which created the most amazing memories. I am grateful for all I learned from him. My sincerest condolences to the entire family. I understand the huge void created by losing such an amazing man. Maureen McCalla

Condolences to Winette & family. I first met Robert at a seminar where he was a speaker. Then, got better acquainted when he retired and moved back to Fernandina. We shared a number of memorable moments while serving as volunteers for the YMCA. A great man & friend. Robert will certainly be missed.

Robert James Odom

2023.12.24

Robert James Odom, age 87, of Fernandina Beach. Preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather and brother.
Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Winette Towery Odom; children Robb (Angela), Randy and Allison (John) Furth; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother Oscar Odom.
Robert was born in Hazelhurst, GA and moved to Fernandina at the age of 8. He graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 1954 and was a proud member of the FBHS Hall of Fame. He and Winette began their married life in Fernandina, but moved many times throughout his long, successful career with HB Fuller Company. Robert and Winette returned to their beloved Fernandina upon his retirement in 1991. He was fortunate to enjoy as many years as a retiree as he did as an employee. By far his most rewarding role was that of husband, Dad and Jeepy.
His funeral will be held on Friday, January 5 at 11:00 in the sanctuary of Memorial United Methodist Church, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Community Hospice, or donor’s choice.
Robert was a loving man, who was well-loved in return. He will be greatly missed.
