Robert T. Montgomery Jr.
2025-09-10
Robert T. Montgomery of Fernandina Beach, FL was sent to his eternal home on September 10, 2025. He was born February 28, 1945, in Kansas City, MO., the son of Robert T. Montgomery, Sr. and Elizabeth (Betty) Montgomery.
Bob was a proud Navy man and enlisted in 1967. He served six years as an aviation boatswain’s mate. He made two western pacific deployments on the USS RANGER (CV-61) to the Gulf of Tonkin supporting combat operations against North Vietnam. His military awards include National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. Bob enjoyed speaking and sharing stories with veterans whenever he had the chance.
After serving in the Navy, his career took him to Reno, NV for a period of time where he was a general manager in plastics manufacturing. He moved to Texas where he continued as plant manager in that field.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Patti; and is survived by his sister, Lisa Brookover (Tim) of Atchison, KS; niece Michelle Ramirez (Philip) of Corpus Christi, TX; and nephew Fielding Brenner of Olathe, KS.
Brittany Spaniel dogs were a large part of his life, including a Field Champion, Tucker of York, in The American Kennel Club. Bob and Patti were regulars in Napa Valley wineries while living in California. He loved sharing that enthusiasm with friends. He was also a loyal fan of his Kansas University Jayhawks.
Plans are being made for a military funeral in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Bob can be honored with a gift to The Foundation of Community Hospice & Palliative Care
