Robert V. Wentworth

2017-10-30

Robert Bob V. Wentworth, 87, of Callahan passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Life Care Center in Hilliard.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York, one of 7 children he was a son of the late Albert and Pearl Jones Wentworth. After High School he joined the U. S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home Bob went to work in a service station and began what would be a long career associated with petroleum distribution and service. He also met the love of his life, Marguerite Peggy Farrell. Their marriage would span 61 years.

As a teenager he owned and maintained his own boat and that would be the beginning of his fondness with boats and the outdoors. As a teen, Bob and his friends in Saranac Lake formed a club known as the Mushrats. He would reminisce and talk about those friends and the good times they had on into his last days.

After he and Peggy began their family they decided to move south to Pensacola, FL. He was able to be nearer a brother who lived there. While there, Bob was able to attend several technical college courses to further his career. After beginning his career at a service station, he went on to work for Pure Oil and its successors; Sherrill Oil, Unocal Oil, and Chevron. He served as a Plant Manager during his working years and retired as a Regional Manager.

As a father and family man Bob raised his daughters to be independent and self-reliant. He took delight in making sure his daughters know how to work on cars and be tough girls when they needed to be. He took his family camping, provided entertainment on road trips and made life enjoyable. He was a good man and a good father who took care of his family. They were not monetarily rich but were rich in good times.

In Callahan, he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents and siblings, Mr. Wentworth was predeceased by a daughter (Pamela) and a grandson.

His surviving family includes: his wife, Peggy Wentworth of Callahan, two daughters, Karen Wentworth and Janet Wentworth, both of Callahan, a grandson and a great granddaughter.

There are no services planned at this time and Mr. Wentworth will be laid to rest at La Flora Mission Crematorium.
