Roger A. Simerly

2026-05-09

Roger A Simerly, 64, of Jacksonville, went quietly to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at his home.

Born in Cherry Point, NC, he was a son of the late Calvin F. and Martha J Simerly. His beloved father was a career Marine and Roger lived in several places growing up.

He had made his home in Jacksonville for the past 30 years and was a truck driver by trade. The last 11 years he had worked for Winn Dixie/Southeastern Grocers before retiring due to debilitating health issues.

Roger was an accomplished drummer playing in several bands and he enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He was also an avid Jacksonville Jaguars fan.

He will be remembered for his love of people, his big-heartedness and how much enjoyment he got out of telling funny stories. Above all else, he will be remembered for his love of the Lord.

He leaves behind his sister, Renee Holzmeyer and her husband, Greg; his brother, Calvin Simerly and his wife, Suzan; his niece and nephew, Paul (Mike) and Nikki (Brett); and great niece and nephews, Zoey, Quinn and Kahlil, and dear friend Lynn Howard.

At his request, close family members will hold a private celebration of life. No public services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations to a favorite charity in remembrance of Roger would be greatly appreciated by his family.
