I knew Sandra for most of my life. She was my neighbor, my teacher, my co-worker, and my friend. Most people remember Sandara as the incredible Math teacher that she was but I had her in junior high for Geography which she was just as incredible at teaching! Later in life, I was blessed to be her co-worker, working next door to her. Sandra exuded southern charm in everything she did. A meeting was not held without the proper coffee and her picninc basket of goodies! She would also remember my birthdays or other life milestones. A small vase with a flower on the desk or a picture frame for the arrival of my twin niece and nephew. Her kind-heart always brightened my day. She looked out for me and gave me sage advice in many ways...as a child, a young adult, teacher, and as a friend. She was a one of a kind woman who valued all who knew her. My deepest sympathies for Steve, Rebecca, Libby, her granchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dear Garden Club friends.

*too (she'd get onto me for spelling that wrong!) lol I always loved seeing her on her walks with her husband! We had some good talks over the years at the beach! Love you Mrs. Carver! My dad has a lot of good memories with you also! You will be missed!

I’m sorry to hear this news. Mrs Carver left a place in my heart from being my 6th grade math teacher into running into her as an adult. She knew how to handle us middle school kids. Always checking in on how our lives were going. Set high standards with class for us. Prayers to her family and Mr Carver. Both of you left an impression and many.

Steve, Rebecca and Libby, my heart goes out to you and your family. Sandra was my Civics teacher in 9th grade. I absolutely loved her. She made more of an impression on my life that she could have ever known. I moved away from FB in 2001, but up until then I ran into her quite often and she had the same quick wit, wonderful laugh and beautiful smile that I remembered from Junior High. I pray for comfort for your family as you grieve the loss of this special lady.

I am so sorry to learn of Mrs. Carver’s passing. She was a wonderful teacher with unmatched patience and poise. Her smile and sense of humor was also extremely likeable. In recent years I’ve missed seeing her cruising around on her bike or working in the yard and getting to catch up. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Carver, her children, and grandchildren as during this time of great loss. May her life’s light ever shine through the impartations that she made in the lives of so many students like myself.

So sad here of your passing. Sandra was a great, compassionate teacher and friend. She was easy to talk with and cared for her students and fellow teachers. You will be sorely missed.

Sandra Beard Carver, 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Fernandina Beach, Florida, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, surrounded by her two daughters and loving husband.
Born on September 19, 1947, in Brunswick, Georgia, Sandra was the daughter of the late Edwin and Jewel Beard. She graduated from Glynn Academy High School and continued her education at Valdosta State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
Sandra devoted more than 35 years of her life to education, teaching junior high and middle school students in Nassau County, Florida. A dedicated and compassionate teacher, she touched the lives of countless students. Her patience, creativity, and steady encouragement left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Outside the classroom, Sandra was a woman of many talents and deep passions. She was an accomplished artist who found joy in painting portraits of her family, capturing moments and memories that will be treasured for generations. Her gift for calligraphy was equally remarkable, and she lovingly created handwritten wedding invitations and keepsakes for family members and close friends. Sandra also had a deep appreciation for nature and took great pride in her yard, where she spent many peaceful hours gardening and caring for her plants. She was also a faithful member of her garden club; sometimes wine was served.
Sandra and Steve built a wonderful life in downtown Fernandina. They cherished time at the beach, early morning exercise, fishing, reading, and enjoying each moment they spent together. They hosted a Shrimp Boat Festival party with friends and family for over 20 years.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. Affectionately known as “Mimi,” Sandra cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a constant source of love, warmth, and encouragement, and her legacy will live on through them.
Sandra is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Steven W. Carver; her daughters, Rebecca Rushton of Charleston, South Carolina, and Libby Cook (Trey) of Savannah, Georgia; her sisters, Angela Creamer and Nancy Wilkes (Rick); and her brother, David Beard, all of Brunswick, Georgia. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Carver Westendorff (Stephanie) of Atlanta, Georgia; Carolina Duckworth (Nick) of Charleston, South Carolina; Charlotte Littleton (Jake) of Charleston, South Carolina; Jack Cook (Mallory Morris) of Los Angeles, California; and Lainey Cook (Thomas McCarthy) of Savannah, Georgia, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren.
At this time, no memorial service is planned.
Rather than flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sandra’s memory to Cats Angels on South 8th Street, in honor of her love for animals.
