Sharon Van Dame Elliott

Sharon Van Dame Elliott, 84, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Fernandina Beach, FL.

Born on September 30, 1941, in Tampa, FL to the late Ronard Beach Van Dame and Lois Coleman Van Dame. She grew up in Thomasville, GA and graduated from Thomasville High School in 1958. She attended University of Florida for 2 years. She had 2 children, Jennifer Luelle Evans and Prudence Lamanda ‘Mandi’ Elliott-Bird (Tom) with her former husband, Dan Akins.

Sharon moved to Atlanta, GA in 1965 to work for the Citgo company. She worked in the Travel Industry for many years. She married Jess Patten Elliott on October 21, 1967, who had a daughter, Merry Lynne Elliott Mathis (Kent). The family lived in College Park, GA until the three daughters graduated and Sharon and Jess moved back to Atlanta, GA.

She graduated from Agnes Scott College, Decatur, GA in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies.

She was an accomplished cook, loving to travel, trying new restaurants and genealogy.

She was an active member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, the Amelia Island Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Princess Amelia Chapter National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, and the Phi Mu Sorority.

Sharon leaves behind her spouse Jess Elliott of 58 years, Children, Jennifer L. Evans, Atlanta, GA, Merry Lynne Mathis (Kent), Jacksonville, FL, Mandi Elliott-Bird (Tom) Edgewood, MD, and her sister, Kelsey V. Harlow, Sunrise, FL. She had 4 grandchildren: Jared Mathis, Jacksonville, FL, Micah Mathis (Alexa), St. Johns, FL, Brandon Mathis, Jacksonville, FL and Lindsey Bird, Edgewood, MD and 2 great-grandchildren, Thea Mathis and Hallie Mathis of St. Johns, FL. Nephews Joe Harlow (Beth), Wells, ME and John Harlow, South Portland, ME and numerous cousins.

The family asks those desiring to remember Sharon to do so with donations to the Dr. Jess Patten and Sharon Van Dame Elliott Scholarship at the College of Education, University of Florida, ufl.edu

The family is planning a service at St. Peters Episcopal Church at a time to be announced later. She will be laid to rest at St. Peters Cemetery.
