I will always remember how much you loved my kids and made them feel special. You might not have been their blood but they loved you so very much! New Years Eve watching you and Peyton sit and talk and spend time together will forever be in my heart!! Love you hug Mr Kelly for me!!

Shirley "Shirl" King

Shirley "Shirl" King, 89, native of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away April 18, 2025 at home.

Shirley was born March 19, 1936 on Amelia Island, FL, the daughter of the late David and Sallie Nettles. She was a member of the class of 1955 and was active in basketball, volleyball and chorus. She married Louis Labigang, a marine from Mississippi while he was stationed at N.A.S. Jax. They lived in Miami, FL, Pass Christian, Mississippi then returned to Amelia Island in 1958. She gave birth to her first son in 1959 and her second in 1963. On June 10, 1979 she became the wife of J.R. King of St. Mary's, GA.

Mrs. King served Nassau County in many ways. She started as an election poll worker and then was hired as an employee of Carol Ann Jones in the Supervisor of Elections office. Later, she was personally appointed by the Governor of Florida for the position of Supervisor of Elections of Nassau County, FL. She was honored to hold that position, unopposed, until she retired in 01-01-01 following the 2000 presidential election.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, which was the first church she ever attended preschool aged.

Mrs. King was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and even great great grandmother. She was always there with love, support and words of encouragement. Most of her guidance came from His word, "The Bible". This is the way she would want to be remembered.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Colin Nettles (Lois) of Fernandina Beach; her son, Kelly Labigang of Hazelhurst, GA and her great grandson, Skyler Labigang of Yulee, FL.

She leaves behind her son, Ricky Labigang of Yulee, FL; her siblings, Geraldine Weaver of Yulee, FL; Bobby Nettles (Janice) of Ocala, FL; and Gloria Beavers, Eufaula, AL; her grandchildren, David Rowland of Yulee, Jessica Glover (Gene) of Yulee, FL; Kelly Labigang Jr. of Hazelhurst, GA; her great grandchildren, Alyssa Dunman, Ethan Dunman (Cydnie), Trinity Glover, Shya Labigang and great great granddaughter, Madelyn Dunman and many loving nieces and nephews of all ages.

The family invites friends and guests for visitation beginning 10 am, followed by memorial service at 11 am at Oxley Heard Funeral Home on Amelia Island, FL on Friday, April 25, 2025.
