Shirley Marie Garvin, age 77, formerly of Fernandina Beach currently of Jacksonville Beach, FL passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Beaches Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville Beach, FL.

She was born on April 27, 1940 in Jacksonville, FL to Layton C. and Shirley (Pickett) Shave. She grew up in Fernandina Beach and Callahan, FL and graduated from Callahan High School in 1958. She then attended and graduated Phi-Mu from Florida State University with a Bachelor�s Degree. From 1987 to 2001 Shirley lived in Moorehead, MS with her husband, Bobby Garvin who was the president of the community college there.

Shirley was employed as a teacher in Callahan, FL and Mississippi elementary schools where she taught kindergarten and first grade. She was also a Sunday school teacher.

Her family remembers her as a wonderful mother and grandmother. Shirley was always active and involved, despite several physical obstacles in her later years, and met every situation with an indomitable spirit, a smile on her face and an upbeat attitude.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Garvin who passed away in 2003 and sister, Faye Coleman.

She is survived by her daughters; Mary Pierce of Jacksonville, FL, Shirrie Stenklyft of Jacksonville Beach, FL, brother, Layton (Ann) Shave, Jr., of Jacksonville, FL, brother-in-law, Jimmy Coleman and family of Callahan, FL, sister-in-law Mary Kate Garvin of Perkinston, MS, grandchildren; Kai Hutson and Alex Pierce both of Jacksonville Beach,FL .

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in Bosque Bello Cemetery in Fernandina Beach, FL.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Oxley-Heard.
