James Harold Jones, age 88 of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at the Warner Center for Caring.
He was born on November 6, 1932 to the late Miles Cope Jones and Thelma Peeples Jones. He spent his life in Fernandina and attended school here.
After graduation he joined the Air Force (all over $10.00) and served honorably for 30 years. His overseas stations were in Alaska, Iceland and Vietnam. When Mr. Jones returned to the States from Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star. In 1975 he left active duty and went into the active reserves which lasted until 1982 when he retired full time.
James was a member of the Methodist Church and worked in the Pet Shop for years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Loretta Hankinson.
James leaves behind his wife Helen; his son, Jim Jones and his wife Janet; his daughter, Teresa Carter and her husband David; grandsons, Kelan Carter and his wife Alicia, Chris Jones and his wife Lola; and his sister, Barbara Higginbotham.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 16th from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, May 17, 2021 at 9:30 AM at Jacksonville National Cemetery (Lane # 2).
