Stephen D. Murray
2026-09-21
Stephen D. Murray, 79, of Yulee passed away Monday, September 21, 2026 at the Warner Center for Caring.
Born in Lowell, MA, he was a son of the late Wilmer K. and Maryanne Van Dyke Murray. He served honorably in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After discharge from the Army, he earned his bachelor’s degree and eventually earned his master’s degree in business administration from Revier University in Nashua, NH.
Mr. Murray had a long and successful career in the telecommunications industry, eventually retiring as a company executive from Meb Tel. After that retirement he was able to combine his passion for the sea and sailing into a new career. He earned his Captain’s 100-ton license and became a yacht broker. In over 13 years he delivered over 100 large sailboats to customers
He and his wife, Carol, moved from Wilmington, NC to Yulee nine years ago. He had a passion for building model sailboats, fishing and just simply “hanging out” with Carol. That, he loved the most…… He will be remembered for is devotion to her and his straightforward optimism exampled by his favorite sayings, “Things are looking up!” and “It is what it is”.
He leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Carol Dixon Murray of Yulee; his daughters, Pamela Murray of Brighton, UT and Jill (Bill) Murray – Killon of Vergennes, VT; Carol’s children, Stephanie (Danny) Flynn of Fernandina Beach and Matt (Amber) Bowen of Summerfield, NC; his siblings, Bruce Murray of Stafford, VA, Albert Murray of Boston, MA, Louann Heliger of Cinnaminson, NJ and Eliazbeth Wolfston of Naples, FL as well as five grandchildren, Quin, Kilon, Aiden, Carter and Alexandra.
Carol and his family are planning on a service at St. Michaels Catholic Church at a later date.
