Scott & Melissa Barronton

Charles & Rachel, We are so sorry and want you to know that you are both constantly in our thoughts. We enjoyed getting to know and spend time with Susan over the last couple of years and to have you guys as our neighbors.

Bobby Crook

So sorry Rachael and Charles. Not much to be said but she is with her Mother, Farther and Brother now. May she rest in peace.

Susan "Sue" Hackney Rawson

2024-07-07

Susan “Sue” Hackney Rawson passed away on July 7th in Fernandina Beach, FL at the age of 58. She was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on Easter morning, April 10, 1966, to her loving parents, Thelma and Don Hackney. Susan spent most of her childhood in Savannah, which she affectionately considered her hometown. At Savannah Country Day School, Susan loved athletics: breaking track records and playing tennis.
She graduated from the University of Georgia, and shortly after, she met the love of her life, Charles Rawson. They were wed in 1995 and welcomed their first and only child, Rachel, five years later in Atlanta. After Rachel was born, Susan became a full-time homemaker, taking pride in arranging play dates in the Dunwoody Branches and loved socializing with those in her community. In retirement, Susan and Charles moved to Fernandina Beach, one of her favorite vacation spots.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Charles Rawson, daughter, Rachel Rawson, brother, Don Hackney, and dog, Andy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Thelma Hackney, and brother, Jay Hackney. Susan will be remembered for her kindness, humor, and generosity. She had a lifelong passion for animals: rescuing dogs, befriending a heron she named Lulu, and feeding squirrels.
A celebration of life will be held at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home on July 20th at 11:00 am in Fernandina Beach, FL, with a reception held afterward. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Donations in Susan’s honor can be made to the Nassau County Humane Society: https://nassauhumane.org/donate.
