Theodore "Ted" Selby

Theodore (Ted) Selby, 73, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on September 10, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Bernadette Selby.
Ted was born on August 6, 1949, in New Castle, Pennsylvania to the late Harold Joseph Selby and Mabel Lucille Blake. He grew up in West Middlesex, PA and graduated as a 3-sport athlete from West Middlesex Area High School in 1967. He continued his education at Thiel College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Florida.
Upon graduation, he joined the Naval Officer Training Command in Newport, Rhode Island. He spent 22 years of service in the Navy and retired as CDR Theodore J. Selby, USN, SC, Ret.
After retiring from the military, Ted went on to work for Jim Thomas Construction and then spent 18 years working for Nassau County as the OMB Director and eventually the County Manager.
Although he was a hardworking, silent leader in the business world, he was a family man through and through. His favorite past time was watching all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren pursue their various activities and he was always there to cheer them on.
Ted leaves behind his loving spouse of 53 years, Bernadette (Bunny) Selby; three daughters, Tracy Knight (Palmer), Jacksonville, FL; Leslie Dumas (Brian), Folkston, GA; and Laurie Lapaquette (Kenny), Aiken,S.C. He also leaves behind 6 loving grandchildren, Ashlyn Knight, Austin Knight, Kaleb Dumas, Brandon Dumas, Chase Mills (Travis), Amber Lee (Dalton), and 2 great grandchildren, Tyler Mills and Ryann Mills. He also leaves behind a loving sister, Deborah Sweesy (Tom), West Middlesex, PA and multiple nieces and nephews and their children.
Ted was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach where he filled multiple service roles for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 23, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in Fernandina Beach, FL.
There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service.
The family will gather at 10:30 am prior to the service for a military ceremony at the Columbarium.
Donations may be made in Ted’s memory to First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach or the Wounded Warrior Project.
