Tom was a true friend and a gentleman. I have many fond memories of our two sailing trips around the DelMarVa with another close friend. The three of us consumed much beer and Oreo cookies.Tom was our trusted navigator. Many other great sailing memories. He will be missed and is in my thoughts often.

Tom’s Travel Adventure A remembrance from John & Maggie Davis, Alexandria, VA Tom, before he retired from his job at the CIA, never told us exactly what he was doing or where he was going. In fact, sometimes he couldn’t where he was going, not even to Janet. He did tell us this adventure. He flew into a city in (I think?) central Asia (?Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, etc? ) where he was met by a government official. The guy says; “We go to the border!” So, they got into a small car, it was hot, no AC and off they go. It was a long drive and along the way the driver stopped at a little stand on the side of the road. He got a fish and put it under the front seat. Dinner! When they arrived at the border, it was a lonely, small building. No town, no restaurant, no hotel. Desolation all around. Inside, there was a main room and several small bedrooms for the border guards. Tom asked; “Where will I sleep?” The government official went into one of the bedrooms, woke up the guard and hustled him out. He turns to Tom. “You sleep here.”

“He is not dead who lives in the lives of others.” Our closest friend of 40 years has been taken from us, but he will live in our lives forever. Honesty, generosity, loyalty: these are the traits that come to mind when we think of Tom. So many priceless memories of this whistler and drummer. Janet, Erin, Kelly and all who knew this special guy, we share your sadness. Kris and Jerry

I feel privileged to have called Tom a "Sailing Buddy" and dear friend. He, along with Janet, were always welcoming and giving of their time and talents. Tom is a prime example of a life well lived in support of his family, community, and country. The engineer in Tom was always evidenced by his many interests and creativity. He served well as his own ship's captain and also crew mate when the opportunity arose. His loves and accomplishments are simply too many to list. He will be missed by many.

Tom and Janet came into our lives about 10 yrs or more ago and an instant friendship began. Tom's enjoyment in life was evident in everything he did. We were so very blessed to call him our friend and will deeply miss him. Mark and Tom especially enjoyed talking about their world travels and living within different cultures especially Mongolia. Our favorite card game was Pinochle and Tom played it masterfully. Evenings spent were always full of good music and laughs. Your life, Tom, is wrapped in so much goodness and we were so fortunate to be considered a friend by you.

My deepest condolences to the family. Tom was such an amazing and kind man. He was always looking after someone. On two occasions, he corrected my time at the finish line for the better having been standing to watch the crossings from the beach. He was never ruffled. Despite the chaos of a race and needing to coordinate travel and the coolers, he had time to spend with everyone. Smiling, he would listen and share our common stories of working for the government. 8 Bells to You Tom!

Tom was more than friend and a real classic gentlemen. He was one of the most welcoming people I met in my life. He introduced and welcomed us to the sailing club and the fun began. He was always ready for serious and less serious conversations and an utterly good laugh - and we had lots of them. But that wasn’t all, we have been out sailing on is boat or on my boat a few times and he always came back with a big smile on his face. His love for science and technology always sailed with us. Being on board for a few minutes he pulled out some highly sophisticated technical equipment and enjoyed contributing and using it. Great Memories - We all have been blessed having him around us. He will be missed in many ways. Your sailing buddy Michael and Katharina

I have so many happy memories of Tom it is hard to pick out just one. But I really loved it when he would take us out on his sailboat. He loved sailing and was so good at maneuvering those sails he enjoyed taking people out sailing with him on Lucky Enough. And to see the joy and excitement on his face was like seeing a kid in a candy store and made it so enjoyable to be out there with him. So I thank him so much for the Tours at Sea. Your loving sister-in-law Lois

We were cousins. I remember playing with Tom and.his brother as children. My earliest memory was when Tom was around 5. John and I would try to get away from him because he.was.a baby. Somehow Tom always ended up playing with us. As the years when by, we became close friends. Our daughters played together. I could always count on Tom to perform a juggling act when we had parties. He was never dull! I will miss his gentle spirit and beautiful smile. Rest in peace cousin!

I especially remember attending the Antique Car Show, March 2016 and the tour of Amelia Island hosted by Tom and Janet. Till today it brings back fond memories. And of course when the Maguires lived in Virginia, Tom took me for a ride in his open Jeep. No frills but thrills. Great memories. Your brother in law George.
