Thomas Francis Callanan

Mr. Thomas �Frank� Callanan, age 76 of Fernandina Beach FL passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Callanan was born in Galaway, Ireland on November 1, 1939, the second of five children born to the late Richard and Theresa Callanan. He was raised in Ireland and attended public schools. He met a young Irish lady by the name of Alice Claire O�Shea and followed her to the United States where they married in the winter of 1963. They settled in Bronx NY where they began a family. Once Mr. Callanan gained his citizenship, he was enlisted in the United States Army and earned his Honorable Discharge in 1965. After the birth of their third child, they returned to Ireland briefly before returning to the Bronx in 1971. Mr. Callanan began employment at Ma Bell, which eventually became Verizon and retired after 30 years of service. In the winter of 2000, Mr. and Mrs. Callanan relocated to Fernandina Beach to enjoy their retirement. You could always count on Mr. Callanan enjoying a game of pool at Hammerheads. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Fernandina.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Alice Claire Callanan in 2011, a brother John Jo Callanan and his sister, Carmel O�Hara.
He leaves behind his children, Richard Callanan and his wife Cathy of Southbury CT, Patti D�Aquino and her husband Richie of Fernandina Beach FL, and Frank Callanan and his wife Mary of Carmel NY. His two brothers, Desi Callanan and his wife Ann of Thornwood NY and Vinny Callanan and his wife Una of Wilton CT and sister-in-law, Kathy Callanan of Albany NY. His eight grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Caitlin, and Justin Callanan, Ryan and Kristin D�Aquino, Melissa and Megan Callanan.
The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 19th at St. Michaels Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Jose Kallukalam, Celebrant. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Bosque-Bello Cemetery following the service.
