George & Charlotte Collins
Tom was a good friend and neighbor. We met while walking our dogs almost 20 years ago. We had many conversation about all kinds of things then and then later when he would be out riding his bike. He was always lending a hand to help with the up keep of our neighborhood islands. He will be missed. Our love and thoughts and prayers go out to Cindi and the family.
Thomas William Kish
2023-03-31
Thomas William Kish, age 72, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away peacefully with his beloved family at his side on Friday, March 31, 2023, following a long, hard-fought battle against cancer.
Tom was a kind and generous soul and will be missed and remembered by many whose lives he touched. He was born on August 5, 1950 to the late William A. Kish and Anne Lusckowski in Norwalk, CT. After high school, Tom joined the Marine Corps at 17. He trained in Parris Island and Camp Lejeune, and was then assigned to the 11th Assault Group, 1st Marine Division deployed to Vietnam. He was proudly awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, a Navy Unit Commendation, and the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. After graduating from Purchase College in New York, Tom embarked on a successful 30-year career in sales and engineering at Exxon-Mobil. He was a faithful servant of God and an avid reader of history and philosophy, having collected thousands of books in his lifetime.
Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cynthia Kish of Fernandina Beach, FL, and children Kristen and Kim, their husbands Jonathan and Darton, and grandchildren Hadley and Poppy (or as he would say, his “gifts from God”), all of Seattle, WA. He also leaves behind his brother William Kish and his wife Hilda of Norwalk, CT, brother-in-law Jacques Dickinson of New Canaan, CT, as well as the countless life-long friends he made over the years. Tom and his family are grateful to Dr. Jason Starr, Nurse Practitioner Stacey Manning, and the many other doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic who fought by his side over the years. Tom was an amazing man with a huge heart, full of integrity: kind, caring, noble, and brave. He will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Fernandina Beach, FL.
He will be laid to rest with military honors in Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA, at 12:30 p.m. PT on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
Rather than flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
