Timothy H. Powell

2018-05-21

Timothy Harold Powell passed away peacefully at the age of 64 on May 21, 2018. He was born June 9, 1953 to James Watkins Powell of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Elizabeth Jean Powell of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky.

Growing up as a Methodist ministers son, Tim lived in several communities throughout Florida. He loved sports and played many basketball, baseball and track. He was quite an athlete. Tim won many Track & Field events including the Gold Medal at the state 880 Relay in Gainesville, FL and broke the state record. He graduated from South Broward High School in 1971.

He moved to Fernandina Beach in 1971 where he met the love of his life, Sue Kelly. They were married on March 31, 1973. He worked for AT&T for 33 years before retiring in 2007. He worked tirelessly to support his family throughout the years. With the help of his father-in-law, Eddie Jacklein Kelly, Tim built the home where they raised their three children and still reside today.

In 2010 Tim began to volunteer at the Journey Food Outreach Center. He gained many friendships through the years there and this became like his second family. Tim was brought on staff and placed on the front line of one the fastest growing food distributions in the country. Literally this ministry was built on the strength of Tims back with Gods leading. Tim was tasked to carry out all the food pick-ups and deliveries that now distribute food to 600 families in need per week in Nassau County alone.

Many wonderful years were spent as a family at the beach. He loved the outdoors and his time alone surf fishing on the beach. He was also known to cruise the town listening to his tunes. He was a family man and never missed his childrens events. He carried this passion on through the lives of his grandchildren and supported all of their endeavors. Tim was a giving man, a wonderful provider, and a hard worker. He had a strong Godly presence and an honorable reputation which preceded him. He instilled family values by example and was sure to pass his work ethic along to his children and grandchildren. Family was Tims greatest pride.

Tim is preceded in death by his Father, Rev. James Watkins Powell, Jr. He leaves his mother Elizabeth Jean Powell, wife of 45 years, Sue (Kelly) Powell; his daughters Elisha Powell Mock(Jonathan) and Kristin Powell Boyette(Mark) and son Eric Timothy Powell(Barbara); six grandchildren, Jackson and Tanner Mock, Payton and Taylor Boyette, and Cody and Mallory Hinkle; nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at The Journey Church, 95707 Amelia Concourse in Fernandina Beach, FL.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the hour of service at the church.

He will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
