Vernon Wayne Cox Sr., aged 78, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, in Amelia Island, Florida. Born on December 8, 1947, in Douglas, Georgia, Vernon was the son of Odena L. Cox and Clyde Vernon Cox Jr. After attending Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, Florida, Vernon proudly served four years in the Marine Corps.

Throughout his career, Vernon contributed his expertise to numerous electrical companies and ultimately worked as a Lighting Quotations Specialist at World Electric Company, where he remained until retirement. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Odena L. Cox and Clyde Vernon Cox Jr. and sister, Gwen Cox Coulliette.

Vernon is lovingly remembered by his sister, Paula L. Cox Stocks; his children, Wayne Cox, Christian Cox, Jennifer Cox and a host of grandchildren.

A funeral service celebrating Vernon’s life will take place at 12:30 pm on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4309 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, Fl.

Guests are kindly asked to arrive 20 minutes early.
