Virginia L. Sylvester
2017-11-30
Mrs. Virginia L. Sylvester, 77, of Yulee passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Warner Center for Caring after a lengthy illness.
Born in Jesup, GA, she was a daughter of the late Nolen and Elma Rider King. Her mothers family was a pioneer family who lived on Chessers Island in the Okefenokee Swamp and whose homestead continues to be a historical site there. She had lived most of her adult life in Yulee.
She was a longtime cake decorator who worked at both Winn Dixie and Publix and it was said of her cakes, they were always perfection. That sense of perfection carried over into her craft work and art work. She made blankets to share and her drawing and painting skills produced beautiful works of art. Her favorite pastime was Bingo. She really loved Bingo..
A longtime member of Pecan Park Baptist Church, she was active there until her health declined.
Her children will always remember her as a feisty lady who loved and guided them into adulthood. Her loving personality made her lots of good friends and she was a good friend to many.
She leaves behind her husband, Robert W. Sylvester of Yulee; her children, Steven Sylvester of Yulee, Teresa Sylvester of Yulee, Sharon Spicer and her husband, John, of Fernandina Beach, Robert Sylvester of Fernandina Beach and Daniel Sylvester of Yulee; her sister, Margaret Rowland and her husband, Willie Earl, of Fernandina Beach; her brother, Michael King and his wife, Becky, of Macon, GA, as well as 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and other extended family members.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard with Mr. Joseph Zane Chason officiating. She will be laid to rest with her parents at Bosque Bello Cemetery.
