Wayne Leonard Rogers

2026-09-26

Wayne Leonard Rogers, 78, passed away on September 26, 2026. He was born on November 27, 1947, in Kansas City, Kansas, to the late John W. Rogers Sr and Wanda Rogers (Czarnowski) of Kansas City, Missouri.

Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his honor, faith, loyalty to his family, kindness, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor.

Wayne spent a long and distinguished career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), working as an air traffic controller and systems analyst. He eventually ended his career at the Hilliard Flight Service Center in Hilliard, Florida, where he dedicated many years of service to aviation and his country.

Outside of his career, Wayne enjoyed the things that brought him the most happiness: fishing adventures, coaching soccer, building rabbit and chicken cages, feeding birds and squirrels and spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids.

Wayne was known for his witty humor and funny adventures, and he was often the comedian at family dinners. He had a gift for making people laugh to tears and for making everyone around him feel loved, creating lasting memories.
But above all else, Wayne cherished his beautiful wife, Chrissie. She was the love of his life and held a very special place in his heart. Their life together was built on love, companionship, family, and countless memories. His love for Chrissie was evident to everyone who knew them.

Wayne is survived by his four children: Kimberly (Robert) Masso of Somerdale, New Jersey; Marcy Ann Williams, of Fernandina Beach, Florida; Jeffrey Rogers of Spring Hill, Florida; Jason (Olga Tate) Rogers, of Brunswick, Georgia as well as 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his brother John W. Rogers Jr. He is also survived by his siblings, Jim (Gay) Rogers, Carolyn Rogers, Loretta Rogers, Rita (Dennis) Bishop, and Betty (Rick) Swoffer.

His legacy will live on through his children, his family, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey. If Wayne could leave his family with one final piece of advice for a happy life it would probably be: “Remember to eat dessert first.”

His memory will live on in every fishing story, every family gathering, every laugh, and every dessert shared together.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday October 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends and relatives starting at 10:00 AM.
Following the service, Wayne will be laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Wayne may be gone from our sight, but he will never be gone from our hearts.
