Willam "Bill" Gallup

William "Bill" Gallup, 78 years old, passed away April 2nd, 2026 in his home on Amelia Island in the care of his family.
He was born January 5th, 1948 in Oneonta, New York to the late George Lyle Gallup and Marguerite Smith Gallup. Though his early years were spent in New York, his family soon relocated to Florida, where he spent his adolescence and high school years in Clermont, FL, graduating in 1966. Prior to graduation, Bill was able to achieve Eagle Scout. He continued his education at community college, earning two degrees before enlisting in the Navy Reserves. Activated in 1971, he served two years sailing the Caribbean and Mediterranean before receiving an honorable discharge. He went on to use his G.I. bill for a degree in Engineering at the University of Florida, graduating in 1977.
Bill relocated to Fernandina Beach, to take a job in the Engineering department at Container. During his tenure of five and a half years, he met his wife, Marilyn Lannon, who he married in 1983. Throughout his time at Container, he continued to pursue his racing dreams and follow in his family’s legacy of race car drivers. He worked in various other Engineering and Maintenance positions throughout his life. The couple welcomed two beautiful boys into their family. His children remember him as a kind, loving and helpful father.
An accomplished engineer, Bill had a natural talent for practical mechanical design, which he enjoyed applying to the many cars he worked on throughout his life. His greatest passions were his family, his cars and his animals.
He was an active member in the Catholic Church.
He is predeceased by his parents George and Marguerite Gallup.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn and his two sons, Spencer and Cole; along with his two grandchildren Sterling and Asher. His brother Richard Gallup and Nancy Gallup, their families.
His memorial service will be held at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home on April 18th, with visitation from 10AM to 11AM, with memorial service beginning at 11AM.
He will be cremated and laid to rest at his favorite racetrack.
