William Alex “Marty” Martin, 80, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the Warner Center for Caring.

Marty was born to the late Alex and Margaret Anne Kuhn Martin on July 28, 1946 in Vancouver, Washington. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy when he was 17 years old and served for over 20 years before retiring as a “Chief of the Boat” in the Submarine Service.

Moving to Fernandina Beach in the late 1980’s, he joined the American Legion, Post 54. During his time as a member there, he served as Commander for over 5 years. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4351.

In his younger years Marty enjoyed playing golf, fishing and cheering on “his” Seahawks football team. While Marty was an accomplished cook and cook many different things, his most requested dish was his famous English Pea Salad.

Marty leaves behind his brothers, Joseph Martin of Dalhart, Texas and Eddy Marting of Notus, Idaho, as well as his many close friends. Marty will truly be missed by many.

A time to remember and celebrate Marty’s life will be held at a later date.
