William Henderson Walton

Mr. William Henderson �Bill� Walton, age 94, of Yulee passed away on Friday morning, July 15, 2016 at Baptist Medical Center in Fernandina Beach.
Born in Washington, GA, he was the eldest and last living child born to the late Thomas Calloway and Elizabeth Pauline Henderson Walton. He grew up in Wilkes County and was a graduate of Washington Wilkes County High School. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving on active duty in Alexandria, VA, he met Mildred Irene Akers whom he would marry in 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Walton remained in Alexandria until he was transferred to NAS Jacksonville. The Waltons lived and raised their children in the Lake Forest section of North Jacksonville. In 1962 Mr. Walton accepted an Honorable Discharge from active duty; remaining enlisted as a Naval Reservist. Upon leaving active duty he joined Wilson � Toomer Fertilizer Company which would later become Kerr � McGee. While working and raising his family Mr. Walton attended Jones College in Jacksonville where he earned his Bachelor Degree and taught a Business course. He remained with Kerr McGee until the late 1970s when he began bidding jobs for REALCO Wrecking of Jacksonville. He remained with REALCO until the early 2000s. The Waltons have made their home in Yulee since 1977.
A man of devout Christian faith; while living in Jacksonville Mr. Walton led his family to Grand Park Baptist Church which would later move and become West Park Baptist Church. Since moving to Yulee he and his wife have attended Hedges Baptist Church.
Throughout his life Mr. Walton enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was passionate about his gardening and derived great satisfaction from watching, photographing and sharing the fruits of his labor. He was a compassionate, quiet and humble man that loved the Lord and was thoughtful of others. Mr. Walton�s wife of 68 years passed away in June of 2014.
He leaves behind a son, Wayne H. Walton and his wife, Carol, Kingsport, TN, two daughters, Nancy Castilleja and her husband, Victor, Jacksonville, FL, Libby Weaver, Yulee, FL, eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Hedges Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Patterson, officiating.
Mr. Walton will be laid to rest at 12:30 pm on Wednesday in Jacksonville National Cemetery, with full military honors.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 � 7:00 pm at Oxley Heard Funeral Home.
